Lightworks at GTC 2015

NVIDIA’s annual GPU Technology Conference, GTC, saw the Lightworks’ team pack their bags and fly over to Silicon Valley, California. Ahead of them and the thousands of eager attendees, laid four days of action packed technological discovery. During the conference hundreds of thought-leading speakers and businesses showcased their latest discoveries and developments.

The main mission for Lightworks during GTC was to demonstrate our new Iray+ for 3ds Max plug-in; which is still in the beta stages of development. Thankfully there was plenty of support from the leading hardware brands; HP, Dell, Lenovo, Boxx and NVIDIA. Each of these outstanding manufacturers were more than happy to have the Iray+ for 3ds Max demo running on their equipment to help demonstrate the power of their technology.

During exhibition set-up we found ourselves opposite IGI, an industry leading provider of audio-visual systems for advanced visualisation applications. Not ones to miss out on an opportunity, we introduced ourselves and were fortunate enough to have them agree to run Iray+ for 3ds Max on their unbelievable, super high-definition 4K screen, (pictured below).

As well as exhibiting Iray+ for 3ds Max, two of our team, Dave Hutchinson (CTO & COO) and Dave Coldron (Product Director) were scheduled to present ‘Custom Iray applications and MDL for consistent visual appearance throughout your pipeline’.

This presentation took you on a tour of the possibilities that Iray’s physically based visualisation and GPU scaling can unlock in interactive, photoreal applications and workflows. Iray can enable your entire workflow from design and validation through marketing and consumer experiences with the same consistent photorealistic MDL powered visualisation. Whether you want to build custom standalone applications and integrations, or use remote visualisation to enable mobile, collaborative or cloud workflows, this presentation will leave you with a very clear view on what your next steps need to be to achieve your visualisation goals. And finally, exciting news for Lightworks as NVIDIA officially announced the release of Iray+ for 3ds Max later this year. Forming part of a full suite of Iray plug-ins for Autodesk products, NVIDIA informed audiences that Iray+ for 3ds Max will give users enhanced materials, lighting and camera options to maximise the workflow potential; as well as access to physically based simulation and interactive review.

Overall we had another very successful visit to GTC and we’re looking forward to returning in 2016.
